Katelyn South - Family School Liaison Counsellor

Hello! My name is Katelyn South and I am privileged to be working as the Family School Liaison Counsellor here at Menno Simons Christian School. I graduated from Gonzaga University in 2022 where I received my Master in Counselling.

I have varied experience working with children, youth, and families in both a therapeutic setting as well as a supportive role. My experience includes, but is not limited to, supporting clients who experience depression, anxiety, anger, perfectionism, grief, ADHD, self-harm, self-esteem, and emotional regulation. Additionally, I have worked with these individuals and family systems through a range of issues such as addiction, struggles in relationships, school stress, loneliness, and transitional change.

My practice is grounded in Person-Centered, Emotion-Focused, and Attachment theories. I draw from evidence-based interventions to help foster healing and the discovery of one's inner voice. Every individual is the expert of their own experience and becomes who they are based on their reaction to their understanding of this. I believe that all people have the capacity for growth, but it is their inner narrative and social experience that drives this desire for change.

My goal is to help facilitate self-awareness and connect a deeper meaning of self through emotional attunement, strengthening self-esteem, and exploring the acceptance of self. It is important to me that every person who walks through my door is met with kindness, empathy, and respect; therefore, cultivating a trusting and safe environment is a consistent priority in my practice.

Leah Ekubazgi - Making Connections Worker

Hello! My name is Leah Ekubazgi and I am a Making Connections Worker for Calgary Christian Elementary and Secondary Schools, as well as Menno Simons Christian School. I recently graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Social Work Degree, and I am thrilled to step into this role with the Palliser School Division.

As a  follower of Jesus, I am so excited to be in an environment where my professional practice and love for Jesus intersect! I am passionate about working with kids and youth and consider it a privilege to connect with students and families in this role. As a Making Connections Worker, I have the opportunity to promote mental health, create space for students to grow in social and emotional skills through small groups and class presentations. In addition, I am here to provide support to both students and families in connecting them with resources and additional support within the community.

Some fun facts about me: I love coffee, the outdoors, and spending quality time with friends and family. A few of my hobbies include basketball, skateboarding, and thrift shopping!

I look forward to connecting with you this school year! If you have any questions please feel free to contact me leah.ekubazgi@pallisersd.ab.ca
